Why Certified PCC

The Certified Performance Climbing Coach (CPCC), launching Fall 2026, establishes a clear, climbing-specific benchmark for professional coaching. It defines what a professional climbing coach actually knows. Movement. Physiology. Psychology. Programming. Communication. Safety. Business systems. It's built entirely around the demands of climbing performance, evaluated through real-world application, and held to a standard that means something when it appears on a resume.

What Gets Measured

If I want to get stronger, I should track load and perhaps volume of high intensity work. If I want more capacity, I should pursue more training duration. If I want to be better at commitment and execution, I should look at how well I do during moments of doubt and fatigue in my training. If I am measuring steps and heart rate and how many times I stood up during the day, I am probably missing some useful things in lieu of things that are simply easy to measure.

Who Needs A Coach?

Having a coach is the easiest way to stay on track. When you have either a team coach, training partner, or personal coach, you’re going to have a training plan. If a training plan is any good, it will push you out of your comfort zone, and when that happens, it’s hard to stick. If you’ve got a coach, they’ll help you follow through, and then help determine the next steps.
